Solid Surface Acrylic Worktops

Solid surface acrylic worktops are not a true Selffit DIY product but we do offer the Bushboard Encore as an alternative to the laminate and solid wood worktops.  Bushboard Encore, like any acrylic work surface is not a DIY product and should always be fitted by an experienced installer. Not all solid surface products are the same and so to guarantee a professional finish, we recommend that the installer has attended the Bushboard Encore training courses in Northampton before fitting Encore.

There is a lot of information on the Bushboard web site including installation instructions, Care and maintenance and full specifications.

Acrylic sold surfaces are renewable as you can simply polish the top surface with the after care kit supplied.  You can sand the worktops down in years to come as the surface is a 5mm reinforced compression moulded acrylic surface on 38mm 630 density chipboard conforms to BS EN 312 2003 Grade P2

Cut out of the side of a Bushboard Encore solid surface worktop. Chipboard core shown with black covering acrylic material. With a 5mm thick surface, Encore is durable and tough with the standard worktop at 4100mm x 650mm x 44mm, and edged on all 3 sides, the 1 long front profile as well as the 2 short ends unlike laminate worktops.  Encore also have the Slab end/Worktop and its 2020mm x 650mm x 44mm, edged only on the front not the ends so you need to re-form the ends yourself with the end strips available (competent fitter needed)  There is also a breakfast bar that’s 2400m long and 900mm wide, edged on 4 all sides, with a 1000mm radius bow on one end for you to use and a square end at the opposite end so you can cut off the one you don’t need (and use as a shelf maybe)

We deliver these individually wrapped in twin wall card wrap and you get the Installation instruction leaflet, care and maintenance leaflet included in the delivery.  The 4100mm is 83 kilos and these needs to be considered when it comes to delivery and fitting with the breakfast bar at 67 kilos.

Do Solid Surface Acrylic Worktops Scratch?

Yes they can scratch with real abuse, but the beauty is that you can sand and polish any marks and stains out.  When you want to move home simply polish the worktops and they come up like new.  Mitre jointing is the same as laminate but you need the gun, adhesives and installation kits.  Sit in sinks are OK but you can get undermount sinks if you have the Bushboard jig to cut the holes out.  Bushboard also have a drainer groove jig system to purchase.

Yes the outlay is more expensive than laminate and installation is tougher but it is renewable and durable. As far as price goes - working an average worktops cost on 2 x 4m worktops I have made this rough guide to what you can expect to pay for a “U” shape kitchen with two worktops and the required sundries not including fitting.
